Kanguru Defender devices utilize the standard USB Mass Storage Device driver that is commonly used by most external storage devices, such as flash drives, external hard drives, and external optical drives. The USB Mass Storage Device driver comes pre-loaded on most Windows based computers, starting from Windows Vista.
Note: Kanguru does not provide any custom drivers for Defender devices.
In some cases, Windows may experience an issue applying the correct driver to a USB device. When this occurs, the CD partition of the device will not appear within File Explorer when a Defender device is connected to a Windows based computer. Looking at the device properties within Device Manager, Windows displays the error message “Error 38”.
If “Error 38” is seen, the most effective method to correct this is by rebooting your computer. Once the system reboots, Windows will attempt to register the device again, providing the system a chance to install the correct driver.
If rebooting your system does not correct the issue, you can attempt some additional troubleshooting steps, as laid out in the following article published by The Windows Club: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-cannot-load-the-device-driver-for-this-hardware-code-38.
