What is FIPS 140-2 Certification?
FIPS 140-2 is a US/Canadian Government testing standard which validates cryptographic/encryption modules that meet agreed upon specifications. It is a rigorous and expensive process, which includes 3rd party validation of security measures included in the device as well as testing for backdoors, flaws, and loopholes. FIPS 140-2 is becoming a requirement for many Government agencies and corporations concerned with maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive data.
