Creating a Partition on Your Kanguru Drive

The following instructions are for creating partitions on any of our hard drive/flash memory based products. In most cases, you won't need to format the drive because they come pre-formatted for your convenience. However, if you are changing to a new OS, you may need to format the drive.

** Warning: This may erase yoru data, please back up before proceeding **

1. Right Click on My Computer.
2. Click Manage.

3. Once the Computer Management Screen Opens, Click on Disk Management.

4. The right side of the screen will show a list of your drives. Locate the drive you want to partition. (In this case it's Disk 2)

5. Right-Click on the black bar associated with the drive and select New partition from the menu.

Note: If the bar is blue, you may have to delete the existing partition before you can create the new partition. WARNING! Deleting the partition will erase any data stored on the drive.

6. The New Partition Wizard will appear. Click Next to continue.

7. Choose the type of Partition to be created. Primary is the default option. You can create up two four primary partitions. On the fourth Primary partition you can then select Extended partition. An Extended partition would then be broken up into Logical Drives.

8. Enter the capacity of the partition you want to create.

9. Assign a drive letter to to the drive, or you can choose to not assign a drive letter in which case the drive letter will automatically be assigned.

10. Choose whether you would like to format the partition now or later, choose the file system for the drive (if you are using Windows ME, XP or Vista and the partition is larger than 32GB you must choose NTFS), and assign the partition a volume label (optional). You can also choose to Perform a Quick Format. If you do not check Perform a Quick Format, a full format will be done.

11. Review the settings. Click Finish to complete the process or Back to make changes.

12. You will see your new drive partition. After it has been formatted it will be listed as Healthy with the file system and capacity.
