FAT32 File System Limitations
Kanguru thumb drives and hard drives come pre-formatted in FAT32 file system. FAT32 is compatible with most operating systems, but there are some limitations.
- You cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the FAT32 file system in Windows XP. Windows XP can mount and support FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB (subject to the other limits), but you cannot create a FAT32 volume larger than 32 GB.
If you need to format a volume that is larger than 32 GB, you need to format it in a different file system (like NTFS) or another option is to use Windows 98, Windows (Me) or a third party formatting software which can create FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB.
- You cannot create a file larger than 4 GB on a FAT32 partition.
- Mac OS X 10.2 and earlier will not recognize FAT32 partitions larger than 127GB.
