When looking to update your Defender device on a Mac computer system, you may receive a few messages. This document should assist you through this process.
Note: The Defender HDD/SSD35 and HDD/SSD350 do not have a Mac compatible update and all updates for these drives must be performed on a Windows based computer.
For Mac OS Catalina (10.15) or Newer:
Due to increases in security made to the operating systems, the messages that you receive when attempting an update are based on whether you allow the update to run or gain access to your device. The following will assist.
- When downloading the KDM update from our support site you will be brought to the Kanguru SharePoint. In selecting to download the update you may receive a message stating “Do you want to allow downloads”. In seeing this, so the file can be downloaded, select “Allow”.
- After the update downloads, by running the update your may be asked if you are sure you would like to open it as it has been downloaded from the internet. In seeing this, select “Open”.
- The update should now open for you and to start the process, select “Next” located at the bottom right of the update screen.
- A progress bar will appear on your screen and you may be presented with a message stating “KDMUpdate would like to access files on a removable volume”. Select “OK” to proceed.
- From there, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update process.
- After successfully logging into the device when the update is completed, you may be presented with a message stating “”KDM” would like to access files on a network volume”. Select “OK” to proceed (this may appear up to four times in a row).
- (Optional) Now that you are fully logged into your device and have access to your files, navigate to “System Preferences”->”Security and Privacy” and select the “Privacy” tab at the top of the box. Locate “Files and Folders” on the left-hand side of the box and remove the checks next to any entry for KDM. This is optional as it will not impact any function of your Defender device if left on.
